installs new leaders for 2017
Douglas C. Smith was installed as Tidewater Builders Association’s 2017 president at a ceremony Dec. 6 at Founders Inn in Virginia Beach. Smith is the trade association’s 59th president.
A Chesapeake native and graduate of Virginia Tech, Smith is vice president of construction and sales for Hearndon Construction, a home building and development company founded in 1975 by his father, Carroll Smith, and the late William J. Hearring. Smith has a master’s degree from George Washington University and served in the Army National Guard until 1996.
In addition to his long-time involvement with TBA, Smith, a former teacher, has been active with the Economic Development Association of Chesapeake, the Chesapeake Public Schools Education Foundation, the Hampton Roads Realtors Association and the Chesapeake Sports Club.
Joining Smith as 2017 TBA officers are:

Patrick Reynolds, president of Ashby Development L.L.C., treasurer; and
Les Ore, owner of Ore Builders L.L.C., secretary.
Joining TBA’s Hall of Fame are past presidents Sam Cohen of Joey Corp., Bill Halprin of S.L. Nusbaum Realty, Pete A. Kotarides of Kotarides Builders, John Olivieri of Associated Development and Ed Sadler of Sadler Building Corp.

Member honored for achievements in 2016
Outgoing TBA President Erin Widener presented the 2016 Member of the Year Award to Greg Harrell of Kempsville Building Materials. In announcing the recipient of the annual award, which recognizes a company or individual for outstanding contributions, Widener applauded Harrell’s and Kempsville Building Materials’ generous support of the association’s Cornerstone Foundation, as well as their membership recruitment efforts.
